Our Projects
Our core offering is a regenerative financial loop: we enable farmers to use their protected and productive forests to secure microloans, fostering agricultural productivity and income growth.
Three years ago, field research in Tanzania uncovered a devastating cycle: Smallholder farmers, in urgent need of capital to purchase farming inputs, were forced to cut down their forest land for short-term income. With 60% of Tanzania's forests under threat and traditional banks deeming rural microfinance too risky, millions of farmers remain trapped between poverty and environmental degradation.
Together with a group of smallholder farmers in Kiyowela, in the Southern Highlands of Tanzania, we co-developed a solution: fair micro-loans backed by forest ecosystems used as collateral - quantified and certified for their carbon and biodiversity value.
